The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
